Forestland Enhancement Program (FLEP)

The Forestland Enhancement Program (FLEP) works to promote the sustainability of private forestlands and to encourage long-term active forest management. Your state forest service will share in the cost to implement management plans laid out in the landowner's Forest Stewardship Plan.

Purposes

The environmental purpose is to promote sustainability of Non-Industrial Private Forests (NIPF).

Landowner Benefits

Landowners receive cost-share for the costs of implementing recommended management activities.

Description

The Forestland Enhancement Program (FLEP) provides cost-share payments to implement the management activities identified in their forestry plan. The forestry plan is developed in the Forest Stewardship Program (FSP), which makes the landowner eligible for this program (FLEP).

Practices

Tree planting, site preparations for natural regeneration, agro forage, watershed protection, wildlife habitat improvement, fire hazard reduction, invasive species control, savannah restoration, forest stewardship planning and others

Costs to Landowner

Landowners must pay for a portion of the management activities funded by Forestland Enhancement Program (FLEP). The funded practices must be maintained or protected by the landowner for a period of 10 years.

Eligibility

Landowners must own a minimum of 10 acres of eligible forestland and have a forest management plan.

Contract

Practices that are funded by this program must be maintained and protected for a period of 10 years at the landowner's expense.

Other Notes

The development of a Forest Stewardship plan is needed for this program.

  • Ask about the Forestland Enhancement Program (FLEP).
